We are working to develop a trauma-informed healing toolkit that has been developed by Waterloo parents that can be used to deal with traumatic events and to have culturally relevant processes and resources that aid in parent-led healing in the Waterloo community

This is a three-year project

The Parent PARTNER (Prevent ACEs, Reduce Trauma, Nurture Relationships, and Enhance Resilience) Project
Parents report that traumatic events are a common experience in the Waterloo community. These events impact parents’ and families’ wellness, health, and socioeconomic progress, and sustains racial inequalities. Parents have noted that there is a need for programs and resources to be culturally tailored to the specific needs of the Waterloo community

Family Well-Being Study
In the midst of a changing economic structure and lasting systemic racism, communities and families are struggling to sustain adequate levels of well-being and meet fundamental needs in health, learning, and social inclusion

What is this Project About?
The purpose of the Family Well-Being project is a survey-based project that examines the overall well-being of families from Waterloo, which is crucial for designing effective policies and practices to support the wellness and living standards in the community

Parents, families, adolescents, researchers, practitioners, and university and national business partners and experts
What are we trying to accomplish?
We want to better understand current state of distress in families in the Waterloo Community and beyond. We also want to determine the relation between family well-being and COVID-19 pandemic factors

Black Hawk County Health Department Collaboration
The Center for Educational Transformation (CET) has an ongoing partnership with the Black Hawk County Health Department. The purpose of this work and partnership is to address the root causes and forces underpinning levels of equity in Black Hawk County. The partnership supports conversations about systemic factors that cause long-established inequities in health, housing, education, and employment. These conversations address the structural, environmental, historical, and societal policies and events which have been integral in building systemic inequity within the county

What is this Project About?
The purpose of this work is to establish a deep understanding of the levels of equity in Waterloo and to work with the Waterloo community on intervention points that can exact short- and long-term sustainable changes so that all community members and stakeholders have an equal opportunity to thrive in all areas of life.
